Tbilisi & Mtskheta
Our sightseeing tour covers as much as possible important and valuable cultural sights of two capitals of Georgia Tbilisi & Mtskheta.

We will start tour with Tbilisi - known from 5th century as a capital of Georgia, the city is extraordinary with its turbulent history, elegant and remarkable Architectural monuments destroyed and restored through the centuries but keeping entire style of Georgian orthodox religion and tradition. We will walk through old city, visit 4th century Narikala fortress, Metekhi church of 13th century, Anchiskhati Basilica dated to 6th century, Sulphur bathhouses, art galleries. We will explore the treasures of Georgia in the State and Art museums.
The rest of this day will be spent in Mtskheta – an ancient capital of Kartli Iberia Kingdom, known as a political and cultural center from 3rd century BC and now designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We will have a nice lunch at local restaurant then continue the trip to visit Svetitskhoveli and Samtavro 11th century architectural monuments, celebrated as a cradle of Christianity and well- known as a cross-cupola with beautiful carving in traditional style. We will drive up to Jvari church built in 6th century, distinguished with its harmonious proportions representing the high achievement of early medieval Georgian Architecture.

The distance from Tbilisi to Mtskheta is 25km (15-20 min driving).

PROGRAM DETAILS:
We will explore three isolated group of monasteries in David Gareja semi-desert area: John The Baptist, Lavra and Udabno. We will hike up to the Udabno hill (2 h hike), located at the edge of the natural border of Georgia and Azerbaijan, important with its frescos from 9th up to 14th centuries. Lunch boxes with tea/coffee will be provided by Explore Georgia staff. Duration of this tour is 8 hours and lasts from 10:00 till 18:00.
