Overview
Georgian contrasting and varied lands give a great opportunity to see numerous Caucasian species of flora and fauna. Trip consists mainly visiting alpine widows, semi-desert areas, wetlands and National Parks with rich species of birds.
In the northern part of Georgia at foot of the great Caucasus range explorer has a chance to observe birds like: Caucasian Black Grouse, Caucasian Snow Cock, Great Rosefish (Caprodacus Rubiculla), Guldenstart’s Redstar (Phoenicurus erythrogaster), Red-Fronted Serin, Bearded Vulture and many more…
The journey consists also of strolling through semi deserted areas with exploration of its unique wildlife. Here a birdwatcher can find species like: Griffon Vulture (Gypsfulvus), Imperial Eagle (Aquilla heliaca), Black Eared Wheater (Oenanthe Hispanica), Isabelline Wheater (Oenanthe Isabellina), Rock sparrow (Petronia) and more.

Day 1 - Arrival 1
Arrival in Tbilisi. Transfer to hotel for overnight.
Day 2 – Woodland & Wetland Species
Breakfast in hotel. Drive to the north towards village Stepantsminda (*former Kazbeg). Explore variety of wetland birds nearby Zhinvali reservoir en-route. Search the woodlands for Black Woodpecker, the distinctive Caucasian race of Common Redstart, Common Chiffchaff and Green Warbler. Overnight at hotel/guesthouse.
Day 3 – 4 Northern Species
Breakfast in hotel/guesthouse. Explore the habitants of mountainous region with variety of migrants and circling raptors. Hike the slopes to see the rare Caucasian birds. Visits to Sno and Trusso the nearby valleys for careful search of the high alpine meadows to reveal the dark shapes of Caucasian Black Grouse, Caucasian Snow Cock, Great Rosefish (Caprodacus Rubiculla), Guldenstart’s Redstart (Phoenicurus erythrogaster), Bearded Vulture and many more…
Evening brief lectures about endemic species and their population. Overnight in hotel/guesthouse at Stepantsminda.
Day 5 – Transfer to the East
Breakfast in hotel/guesthouse. Drive approx. 6hr to Kakheti region. Destination point village Dedoplistskaro. Dinner and overnight at guesthouse.
Day 6 – 7 Species of Mediterranean Landscape
Breakfast in guesthouse. Drive to Iori upland towards Chachuna managed reserve. Superb environ for birds of prey like: Eastern Imperial, Steppe, Booted and White Tailed Eagles, Long-legged Buzzard, Egyptian, Black, and Eurasian Griffon Vultures and Saker Falcon. Possible to encounter European Bee-eaters or Crag Martins. Dinner and overnight at guesthouse.
Day 8 - Species of Semi-Desert Area
Drive to Gareja a semi-desert area with grassy steppes. Look for characteristic species like: Imperial Eagle, Black Vulture and Long-legged Buzzard. Transfer to Tbilisi. Overnight at hotel.
Day 9 – Water Birds
Breakfast in hotel. Drive to Tabatskuri Lake via village Tsalka. Explore the wildlife of Javakheti Plateau. Observe verity of raptors and particularly water birds like: Cormorant, Greathe White Egret, Stork and so on…
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Bakuriani.
Day 10 –Birds of Two Magnificent Lakes
Breakfast in hotel. Drive to Paravani and Saghamo Lakes and observe the species of wetland like: Mallard, Demoiselle Crane, Back Winged Stilt, Dipper, Water pipit and so on… Transfer to Akhaltsikhe. Dinner and overnight at hotel/guesthouse.
Day 11 – Back to Tbilisi
Breakfast at hotel/guesthouse.
*Optional excursion of Rabati castle restored recently reviving urban lifestyle of medieval ages. Drive back to Tbilisi for overnight at hotel. Free evening.
