Overview

Through this extraordinary ski-tour, guests will explore an ancient settlements, the medieval towers and still preserved rituals which are spread all over Svaneti region.


This highland area tightly relates to the legend of Argonauts who visited Svaneti long time ago using direction of Enguri river.  According to the legend Greeks were searching ancient gold prospecting technique practiced in gold-bearing rivers of Svaneti.


Ski tour is perfect mode of travel to explore fascinating views of snow-capped mountains, beautiful slopes and roaring rivers.


Trip consists of visiting several spectacular mountains. Skiing the slopes of Mt. Tetnuldi 4858 m. and Mt. Benguriani 3840 m. Tour continues to the glacier of Chalaadi. The view of Mt. Ushba 4710 m. twin peaks: Mt. Tetnuldi 4974 m. and the great Caucasus range awakens unforgettable feelings.


Ski tour follows the mountain roads of Svaneti going towards the highest inhabited village in Europe – Ushguli 2200 m. The village represents the architecturally unique middle age fortification, surrounded by the 5000 m. giants of the great Caucasus Range.


Overall this trip would be nothing without getting acquainted with local traditions and cuisine.

Itinerary


Day 1 - Arrival 1

Arrive in Tbilisi. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2 – Drive to Svaneti

Breakfast at hotel, drive to Svaneti where the ancient settlements, preserved rituals, fascinating views will catch every traveler’s attention. Evening arrival to Becho village. Dinner and overnight at guesthouse.

Day 3 – From Becho to Mestia

After breakfast start ski tour towards Mestia - administrative center of Svaneti region.. On the way enjoy spectacular view of Mt. Ushba 4710 m. and Mt. Tetnuldi 4974 m. Descent to Mestia. Dinner and overnight at hotel. Skiing: 7 h

Day 4 – Round Trip of Mestia

Breakfast at hotel. Full day skiing on Mt. Benguriani 3840 m. Back to hotel, evening visit to local middle age dwelling house and tower. Dinner and overnight at hotel. Skiing: 7 - 8 hr

Day 5 – Climbing up to the Glacier

After early breakfast, start full day ski tour to Ushba Plateau. Ascent up to 2600 m. the tour continues to Chalaadi glacier with stunning views of Mt. Ushba 4710 m. and Mt. Tetnuld 4974 m. Return back to Mestia. Dinner and overnight at hotel. Skiing: 7-8 hr

Day 6 - Skiing to the Highest Inhabited Village in Europe

Breakfast at hotel. Ski slopes of Mt. Tetnuld 4974 m. Descent to the of Enguri river. By 4WD vehicles depart to Ushguli village - the highest inhabited village in Europe, recognized by UNESCO, as a world heritage site, located at 2200 m. Dinner and overnight at guesthouse. Skiing: 2 hr

Day 7 – Skiing towards the highest Peak of Georgia

Breakfast at guesthouse. Morning visit to Lamaria complex dated from 12th century; the name of Lamaria in Svan’s dialect refers to Saint Mary. Ski tour along Enguri River. Back to Ushguli, dinner and overnight at guesthouse. Skiing: 6 hr

Day 8 – Skiing to Zagaro Pass

Breakfast at guesthouse. Half day skiing in the area of Zagaro pass 2623 m. Drive back to Mestia for dinner and overnight at local hotel. Skiing: 4-5 hr

Day 9 – Drive to Tbilisi

Early breakfast at hotel. Drive 9-10 hours to Tbilisi. Overnight at hotel.
